what is the normal length of Speedplay spindles?
i.e. what is the spindle length when i buy a pair from a bike shop?

When you buy the titanium Speedplay pedals, the "standard length" of spindle is 50mm. When you buy the stainless or cromoly spindle, the "standard length is 53mm."
Guessing they do this to maximize published weight savings on the titanium version? In any event, the 53mm have been sold and the 50mm are still available.
