I always find it interesting that a person could likely excuse themselves from jury duty just by answering certain questions in certain ways. If you don't want to do jury duty it doesn't look too hard to get out of it.

I have not yet had the pleasure to sit on jury duty. I was called years ago but due to a back injury I was truly unable to sit for any length of time, so I was dismissed.

Reading through those questions, makes me wonder, how many degrees of separation are they looking for? That's quite a few questions about family or close friends.

Also, if anyone knows, help a brother out here. Who writes these questions? Are they standard boiler plate, with the exception of replace Trump with whomever the defendant is? Or does the DA and defense counsel work together to come up with these?

Juror selection is a strange process. I have sat on a grand jury, but I have been excused many other times. I also saw a woman fined by the judge for answering the question: "Why do you thing you would make a good juror?" Her answer was: "I can tell if someone is guilty by just looking at them." That made a lot of people laugh, just not the judge.

I thought it was interesting that this questionnaire did not ask about military service or highest education. Those questions have been on every questionnaire I have completed. Military service seems to be an automatic disqualifier in a lot of cases. Not sure why.

I also found it interesting that the judge assigned the foreman. Maybe it is different in NYS Supreme Court, but for the Suffolk County Grand Jury we voted ourselves (and I got screwed by being elected).

Question #4 asked about education.

Same. I made it into the jury box and would have been on the jury except I had a cast on my leg and was on crutches and was supposed to have my leg propped up most of the time. Judge let me go. My attorneys were not sad since we were in the early stages of a merger.

The questions are not all boilerplate. Some were agreed upon by the parties. Others are from the judge. The process is discussed on pp5-6 here:

This one would be a good jury to be on because a book deal is for sure for someone.

I was the foreman on the sorriest jury I have ever seen. I caved when the vote was 11-1 on the third vote. The judge called us in afterwards and wondered how the hell we came up with a not guilty verdict when the evidence was stone cold convict. The jury was made up of 11 "Local People" in Hawaii except for me and the majority didn't think a "Haole" from the mainland could identify a "local person" wearing a baseball hat and sunglasses as a disguise from a line up in which she not only confronted the burglars at point blank and chased them in their getaway car 10 miles while talking to the police. The other two trial jurys of his buddies were out for 10 min on convict verdicts. I wonder how many liars are in the pool.
My next jury selection I will be the guy with a mustard stain on my shirt and a bit disheveled looking old man. I worry that a juror will sneak in that has a "I saved Trump" or a
"saved America" attitude in the woodpile. That seems to me like a pretty good questionnaire all things considered.

If I answered that questionnaire truthfully, it would take me a week to complete it.

For instance, question #29 asks like 12 different questions.

In addition, all those “have you, a relative or close friend” questions ate overly broad. Like question (13?) about being a victim of a crime…..think about how broad that is. And it asks about you, a relative or close friend. I mean, if i thought hard about it, i bet everyone i know has had some kind of crime committed against them.

Pink? Maybe. Maybe not. You decide.

I think #29 is pretty easy to answer. If you write anything but plain old no you are probably dismissed by either side.

These are Trump case specific, I am assuming there was still the standard questionnaire that would cover those, maybe not. (i thought i read education on their, but don't see it now)

Education is on there. I was corrected a few posts up. Its like the 3rd or 4th question. Somehow I missed. There are a lot of questions on that list.

Prosecutors also raised concerns about a second juror who had been selected, saying the district attorney’s office had obtained information that called into question the veracity of the juror’s answers to previous questions. Justice Merchan said he wanted to hear from the juror before making a decision, but the juror was not in court Thursday morning.

Honest question to all.

Could you do the job fairly?

I would have no interest in all of the BS that come with being on this one. I’ve served before, and I’m actually on call all next week for jury duty.

As much as I despise everything that he represents, when you sit on the jury and they give you the instructions, I found it easy to set aside prejudice, and be objective to the letter of the law. I think I could here. Give me all the facts, just the facts, and tell me the legality that I need to base decision on.

I'd like to think I would. Most of my adult life required me to wear metaphorical blinders, not caring about anything except what's directly in front me me at the moment. Though, like the juror whose friends/family ID'd her through press releases, I'd not want the notoriety that comes with sitting on that jury. Guarantee my anonymity to the public, sure, I'm in.

I would admit I think he's too old and losing his marbles, just the same as I'd admit that's my stance for Biden.
