Ironman - Sodium, Gels and No More Gatorade
Quote | Reply
Up until this past year the Gatorade Endurance I actually liked. With it no more, and having some difficulty putting it down late race I’m trying new things.

What are you guys doing for Ironmans? On a fast course I’m a 4:30 cyclist. I’m looking for 1-1.5L per hour on a hot day and around 1000-1500mg/sodium per liter.

All the Maurten, SIS, NeverSecond etc are all very low on sodium. I have tried out Precision Hydration 1500 tablets and SIS Beta gels and find it a decent solution. In race scenarios I'm nervous about not having a consistent sipping of cals (don’t like the gel in a bottle) and how Ill get enough electrolytes.

For those not using on course nutrition how are you doing this?

What’s the deal with Sodium is less really working?

Has anyone used PH tablets and dropped them into a BTA quick fill during a race?

It looks like Mortal Hydration will be on Ironman courses. Definitely try it. They had it in Oceanside yesterday. Maybe mine wasn’t mixed correctly, but it was super salty ( like beyond pickle juice salty). Gatorade was also on course.
