We don't go around cautioning people not to look at the sun during normal conditions.

Sorry never heard of Bonnie Tyler. Not sure what he/she/they don't care about, but it doesn't matter to me anyhow.

Anybody know for what period before and after totality I have to use eye protection?

I don't understand the question.

You should use eye protection any time you ever look at a non-totally-eclipsed Sun, regardless of whether a total eclipse is about to occur or has recently occurred.

So you don't ever watch a sunset? We seem to instinctively know that's okay but at a certain point in the sky we seem to know that it isn't okay to look more than a glance at the sun. It is almost like we evolved this ability. I am not telling anybody to stare at the sun.

news article - "the population of Houlton, ME is expected to double"
can't believe a MAINE writer made that mistake. The population of Houlton is about 7 people. Gonna be a lot more than double

UPDATE - ok, apparently Houlton has 6k people, author might be right
didn't know it was that big

maybe she's born with it, maybe it's chlorine
If you're injured and need some sympathy, PM me and I'm very happy to write back.

She has great advice on how not to get damaged from eclipses. "Turn around."
