Frame/Fork thru-axle spacers for protection during travel
Quote | Reply

I must be using incorrect search strings because I thought it would be something easy to find, but I am not having much luck.

I found this, but not cheap and shipping from the UK - there's gotta be cheaper or at least easier to get.. although I do like that the rear has the chain guide too:

I do like that with the above, you still use the bike's thru-axle so that it is both solidly attached, and the thru-axle itself is stowed.

Versus this plastic protector I also found that just pops in the dropouts:

What are people here using to protect the frame with no wheels mounted during travel?

It's been a long time since I travelled with a bike, but the $7 plastic spacers are what I always used.
I'm not sure what bike manufacturers ship their frames with, but those cheap plastic spacers were standard from factory shipping 10-20 years ago, so I wouldn't have issues using those ones.

Go to the plumbing section of your hardware store and buy a stick of PEX pipe. Works like a charm and very cheap.

Similar to this, I used 1/2” PVC pipe and put the skewers through.
