PTO Daddy building a new city in Northern California, maybe to host PTO World Champs?

OK, so I made up the last part, but I'm surprised that I haven't seen this posted here or in the Lavender room? Sounds like PTO sugar daddy Michael Moritz is one of a series of wealthy folks have big ambitions for a new city in Northern California just outside of the Bay Area.

Could we see Ironman Utopia in the near future? or perhaps it would be Challenge Utopia The Championship, the possibilities are endless.

Not triathlon related, but there's so much money in that area and local government has seemingly abdicated its responsibility in a lot of areas that it makes perfect sense that investors would take the opportunity to provide a service wealthy people would be willing to pay for.

So he gobbled up thousands of food producing acres to plough under and put a concrete metropolis? These guys are completely stupid and are driving up our food costs. Similar to Bill Gates now being the largest single owner of farmland in the world. All these bastards are doing it controlling the food supply, but in all of the worst ways. We have an ability to drive down costs in this country but these tech idiots who don't understand what land is for will purchase it from willing ranchers and farmers who are trying to get out of the business. But instead of corporate farm corps buying it we now have these guys doing it. Which is significantly more worse. Probably a LR type post, but triathletes have to eat, right? Well the cost of beef just went up 10 cents/lb in California with this acquisition.

ETA: read the full article, this is almost like a sub plot from Yellowstone.

Um, if you want to keep food costs low by forcing ag land to remain ag land, buy the ag land and operate it at suboptimal profit margins.

If you want social policy to support that strategy.... raise taxes and buy the land and lease it to a farming business.

Wealth is created with real estate development. As we've developed our land, yes, food prices have gone up, but not only has productivity, but the ability to pay higher prices. Hence, we spend a smaller share of income on our food now than 100 years ago when farm land acreage was much greater than now.

I guess I disagree. The West has lost a ton of grazing land and the price of grazing land ambas climbed astronomically due to wealthy idiots like this.

You think with 8 billion people to feed that loss of grazing land in CA is going to move the needle on food prices?
If you think the average person eats pasture raised meat and eggs, you may be one of those rich guys you seem to be concerned about.

Each year, 119 billion pounds of food is wasted in the United States. That equates to 130 billion meals and more than $408 billion in food thrown away each year. Shockingly, nearly 40% of all food in America is wasted.

Europe and North America consumed most calories last year – at 3,540 per day
Generally, the recommended daily calorie intake is 2,000 calories a day for women and 2,500 for men.

The overall export share of U.S. agricultural production in 2021 was 20 percent

The Netherlands is the world second largest agricultural exporter.

US can handle with a fraction of it's land feeding the entire world population...

What does that have to do with the price of milk in Iowa?
