He talks about it on Youtube in an interview with Matt Lieto. Pretty impressive!

Definitely out of the box thinking.

The part of the descent I've been on - from worlds 2019 - is pretty turny. Since I'm not a mountain biker, I'm not really sure what to think about bike handling with the seat dropped. Do you want to hit a hairpin with it down?

Edit - just watched the above video. This will be interesting!

I’d especially use it around hairpin turns. That’s the advantage over a typical super tuck - it’s safer in general and can be used through corners, and keep butt rearward and center of mass lower.

I think I probably have 5 past posts talking about how I want to see this on a tri bike. Awesome to see Magness implement this when grand tour guys are still barely catching on.

His interview above seems to make him a serious threat.

Matej is disappointed in this comment.

I think this makes sense more in triathlon than most road racing. Less people around you that become problematic when you are flying down a mountain in tri. I hope Magnus has a good race.

Definitely is just a work around of the supertuck ban that didn’t make sense in the first place.
A big advantage is being able to weight the pedal even more in turns to get an even more aggressive cornering speed.
You’ll still not be as stable in the open corners and straight lines as you would be in a supertuck but it is better than just sitting in the saddle since your body would be able to act as a mass damper by weighting your legs a bit more rather than a massive dead weight on top of your bike.

Magnus is a nice guy, very modest, and a calm and determined competitor. This is a much better video than most.

Well, actions speak louder than words and Youtube videos. :)

You could also drop the seat a little on long no pedal descents and drop your body height, which presumably could be a little more aero and stable potentially?

Usually Frodeno's bike is the masterclass in bike tech, but Magnus has so many smart mods, its like he is biking in 2030

He is a smart guy that surrounds himself with smart people.

And while this should be obvious, so many surround themselves with quacks

So Magnus isn’t going to ride a Kestrel with Gatorskins?

I'm still curious why Jan runs that 858 NSW front wheel...

Cause he has a contract that requires him to do so.

Watching the race live, Magness had the dropper slammed and was pedaling. After the first climb, there was a descent before a long climb up to the plateau; on that descent, Magness bridged up to Rudy while using the dropper. It seemed visually obvious that Magness had descended faster than the group he was chasing to be able to catch up that quickly. On the final descent, he stayed with Rudy.
