Non fungible token.

It’s a unique key that proves he has the record for IM distance.

Its‘ data is immutable, NFTs are stored on a blockchain.

It’s a bit like crypto currency, except in this case the key holds the data of ownership of either digital or physical assets.

Not this absolute nonsense again.

This has nothing to do with the spurious claims the record isn't valid.

Think of this as a certificate, but in electronic form instead of paper form.

I read that as 'what's the NFT record?"

$69 million at this point with 'the First 5000 Days' by Beeple.

^^^^This.

An NFT is just a transaction record, with the advantage that it is public and unalterable (because...blockchain). NFTs just help authenticate transactions, they are the receipt, not the purchase.

All this is true, and NFTs are freaking BS. Stupid rich people who pay thousands to millions for them think they carry some sort of property rights. They don't.

Nonetheless, whereas typically people would create and sell NFTs to get richer at the expense of the gullible, in this case all the proceeds will go to Jan's charity. Which is good. But once the auction is over, I hope Jan will tell his fans not to buy any more NFTs ;)

So if you buy the NFT, you're the holder of the record.

You're the holder of something that cannot be copied, which the issuer says is symbolically tied to Jan's record.

Of course, anybody can issue an NFT and say it's symbolically tied to Jan's record. Jan can also mint an NFT for his Canyon bike, his smile, his fame, his legendary consistency, etc., and I can mint an NFT for all those things (his things, not mine).

That's what makes NFTs ludicrous. They prove nothing.

Probably better for the Lavender room.

It will be interesting to resurrect this post now and again over the years and see how often our everyday lives interact with NFTs, defi and crypto.
Whenever I hear people poking fun at the crypto space, NFTs in particular, I think of the people laughing at the internet, amazon and ebay in the mid 90s. Like it or not, this space will be an unavoidable part of our lives in the not so distant future.
