Spect two weeks each of the last two summers in the area just north of banyoles . Two hours by bike to the Pyrenees and Into France . Didn’t do gravel but the road riding there was the best I’ve ever done

Couple of nice road ride (with small sections of gravel) routes attached. We were there in the second half of Apr a couple years ago and traffic on the roads was extremely light. Copied most of the routes from Robert Gesink who was living and training there at the time.

Olot Loop: Ride to Olot with some hilly excursions. Includes one or two gravel sections but mostly road.



Beach Loop: Ride to Tossa del Mar, up the coast and back to Girona.

Well, wasn't Girona mostly popular during the Motoman days? :)

The riding is good and the environment is very competitive, both for roadies and triathletes.

But there are other, less known areas in Catalonia which are not necessarily Girona based. Some has already been mentioned, like the Pyrenees, Andorra, Olot, Banyoles (two latter can be reached from Girona) - but my personal favorit is Priorat south of Barcelona (bit inland from Tarragona). Roads are perfect, empty and epic. Wine is world class too

Touch base as well with the Service Course, Christian is a big gravel rider and will know all of the best routes. Girona is bicycle heaven, I spent a week there and would go back in the blink of an eye. There are at least 3 great shops that cater well to visitors. Bike Breaks, The Service Course, and Eat Sleep Cycle. You can basically ride 10 minutes in be into the country side and it is amazing. If you are adventurous it is probably a 1-2 hour drive by car to Andorra and the big mountains. Seriously you can not go wrong.

as well stop by his bike shop at The Service Course. They can provide you with course maps for you GPS computer, Bike breaks has a listing of rides on their site and you can download ride files from them. There is no end to options. But you have to stop at La Fabrica, the food and of course coffee is to die for The cafe/restaurant is actually run by Christian's wife Amber.

we're thinking last august. it's kind of a covid thing. i think we'll be good to travel, go to restaurants, race, here in the U.S. by May/June. i'm not so sure europe will be as ready that soon. so that's our time frame.

i saw this listing of rides, but it looks like you've got to pay 2.50 euros to download a course. really? i'm usually not a complainer, but i would think route maps should be freeware.

I can't argue with you there, just pointing to the option. There are a ton of routes on Strava that I suspect one could easily download for free. I reiterate, the place is bicycle heaven! I rode pavement and the drivers were unbelievably considerate. As a for instance I was making my way up a long twisty climb one day and this car stayed behind me, at one point I could see up the road and waved them by and they actually waved and smiled! It is a world onto itself.
