For my commutes and mountain biking I've an USE/Exposure 'joystick' light on my helmet. I purposely look at the driver/ into the car/truck cabin when I'm approaching junctions or when I think they may turn across me.
Obvs more effective in dusk/ night where I basically light up the car interior so even if they are fecking about with a fag / coffee / radio / phone / their dick, they still notice the interior getting lit up like an alien spaceship is coming for them. But still works to an extent in the day (Current onenI have is 800 lumens and relatively narrow beam / good distance on it).
I've a flashing light on the bars. Inc daytime. Just give them 1 less excuse for not seeing me.
And as others say, I ride assuming every car and truck IS wanting to kill me (that's what comes of riding a motorbike for a few years when younger - you realise they actually ARE out to kill you).
