i'd love to see more veterans among our representatives if for no other reason than that they know the cost of political decisions to send our young men/women into harms way. For that I'd look to National Guard veterans, US Army Reserve Veterans, and those who've served in regular force but retired after a few years due to other interests or injuries.

+1 on this.
I supported Mikie Sherrill in the 2018 election (didn't vote for her -- she's not in my state). Many haven't heard of her because she doesn't spend all day on Twitter. But anyhow, she was in my class at Annapolis, ran a fairly moderate campaign, and yes - she's a veteran and someone who understands that there's a real cost to wars.

James Webb, Annapolis Class of '68, awarded Navy Cross for combat in Vietnam, tried to run for the Dem nomination in '16 but couldn't get very much media attention. Hillary and Bernie were stealing the limelight, and Webb was just not flamboyant enough. I would have voted for Webb in a heartbeat.

To the broader point, shouldn't any countries representatives be broadly representative of the populous?

As many veterans as corporates as public servants

I find the idea that politics is a career, that in the UK there is this path from Eton to Oxbridge to SpAd to safe parliamentary seat to government and eventually back to the private sector to lobby to be unedifying

I'm doubling down on Hawley.

Not ancient

Anyone who pays attention might notice that passing comments made by Steve indicates a level of intelligence not only on the far right if the distribution here but worldwide.

He has shown a dedication to public service

He has military service which means a commitment of troops would not be taken lightly

He's from a state that makes winning the EC much easier

He has had to make snap decisions for all of his adult life.

It would be a cool name for a President

i've given you my answer on this but will state it again here by re-quoting a fellow alumni from the banks of the Hudson River.

All well and good, but there's no getting out of it!

As another (possibly even more distinguished) alumnus said, no-one "has the right to state, categorically, that he will not perform any duty that his country might demand of him".

Why did this distinguished alumnus hate women?

Personally i am VERY leery of a professional political class

I hear you. My first in-person experience with the professional political class was when a (Federal) Congressman toured by grad student lab. Made my skin crawl, with the bizarre entourage and fakery. (and I have no recollection what political party it was.).

But on the other hand, throwing well-intentioned amateurs up against all the global challenges we have doesn't sound that great either.

Hawley JSA 2024

(Please note Canadians that your locked in to Prince Charles and are all ineligible to be President of the US unless born here)
I think this is a good ticket and even could be reversed (JSA would be better at establishing law that may not go to supreme court all the time) but a perverse part of me would love to see how much traction an mjuric / vitus libertarian ticket could go. Personally think libertarianism is better in A small scale than national, but I think the pair would be fun to watch. Lively debates!

I forgot that story (discussed it back then with you). All I could remember was that there was something about Madonna (reading the thread I see she smelled nice).

I think it is cool that Keith would say hello to two boys. I like Keith Richards alot after watching the documentary Keith Richards: Under the Influence on Netflix. He laughs alot now in his old age. Didn't seem too nice as younger man as depicted in the Crossfire Hurricane documentary. (I think I've said all this before here.)

But the dude met Keith Richards twice and SMELLED Madonna. These are the reasons I had you on my guru list.
