Triathlon app idea
I'm thinking of building an app to solve the same problems I have before and after every race:
  1. Planning paces, race goals, and keeping track of actual times (after the race)
  2. Planning on what to bring or pack - all my races are overseas so it's always an ordeal
  3. Planning nutrition and what I'll eat during the race according to my needs (calories, carbs, sodium, etc)

So, here's the idea. An app that has the following:

GOAL SETTING

  1. A pace calculator for the swim, bike, run (min/100m or yards, T1 time, avg bike speed and time, T2 time, min per km or mile), so you can sum those up easily and play with the various combinations, and save them to a future race you'll be doing
  2. List out everything you need in the packing checklist, and save them to that same future race
  3. Sum up all the foods you'll be consuming and see how many calories/carbs/sodium you'll be consuming per hour and save those to that future race

THEN

Do the race, and update your ACTUAL paces and nutrition. So now you have planned and actual side-by-side, under a specific race.

FINALLY

If you do the same race the next year, you'll be able to see what you achieved and it'll be a lot easier to plan again and set the right goals.

Does this sound like something you'd use?

Thanks.

Thanks to those who installed the app and gave me feedback.

I've made lots of fixes, and even implemented a feature where you can build your own race for the pace calculator (instead of using pre-set tris - sprint, Olympic, 70.3, full). Now you can create a duathlon or any length and order of swim, bike, and run. Transitions are automatically included.

Some of you also added additional nutrition products to the hourly carb/calorie/sodium calculator.

I also made fixes to the pace calculator to better accommodate imperial (mph).

Keep the feedback coming and thank you.

I didn't have time to go to the site and look at the app, so my question may be answered there.

Does it use historical training/race data to suggest pacing for each event? What would really help me is if I had an app that could look at my historical data for s/b/r and suggest pacing data other than "use zone 2 throughout the event".

Not a coach. Not a FOP Tri/swimmer/biker/runner. Barely a MOP AGer.
But I'm learning and making progress.

I do not think so, from what I gather you just enter your goal times...

No, but that would be a great idea. However, it would have to have access to all of your data obviously.

What you can do, though, which is way simpler and maybe more appropriate as it will be course-specific, is refer to your paces from last year (which you need to enter) and then adjust from there.

So if you did the run in 1:45 last year and you want to do a 1:40 this year, you just enter that time and it'll spit out the pace.
