Kask Utopia
I’ve been racing in an Aerohead for the past few seasons...it’s been fine (never tested it), but starting last season the visor was getting really fogged up - i typically race in very humid conditions (not sure if that’s why) but it’s super annoying when you’re trying to hammer and also be conscious about potholes.

Anyhow - I just picked up a Kask Utopia, not with the intent to race in it, but for training in around town (my old road helmet was probably 15 years old). Anyhow, it seems to be marketed as an aero road helmet my question is - does anyone have any thoughts on how aero it is compared to the aerohead for TTs and Tris (in general w/o testing)? I’m thinking about possibly racing in it if the visor in the aerohead remains a drawback. Was looking at the bambino as well but couldn’t justify having two TT helmets when I also needed a road helmet (don’t want to be that guy wearing a TT helmet on a training ride).

I don't have anything to add about your helmet. But, based on the typo in your thread title I thought this was yet another covid-19 thread...

I knew it wasn't a COVID thread because it wasn't started by rcmioga

LOL - best comment

i have both the giro aerohead and kask utopia - i'm nowhere near fast enough to warrant aero testing, but I bought the utopia helmet specifically for full IM's. i just can't keep aero in the giro for longer than a HIM since the helmet has a tendency of tipping forward on my head over time - it's not the best fitting aero helmet for me. but i wouldn't discount the utopia for any race - especially if you can hold your aero position longer than with the aero helmet.

The Utopia is simply the best fitting, most comfortable helmet I've owned. It was faster than my previous helmet (Giro Synthe) and the Kask also likely saved my life. It has many dents in it (getting it replaced) after power sliding across the Miami Man Half Iron on a huge sink hole they missed coning off around mile 21-23'ish. It breaths super well, and is light. I've used it climbing mountains, flat sprints and everything in between. Should I ever race another Iron distance race again in the future, this would be the helmet I'd use. Again, light, breaths very well, comfortable, looks good and is super safe (even without MIPS tech). I trained & raced it in all year.

I am just about to buy a Kask Utopia but holding back due to sizing. I am 58cm (wear a M Specialised Evade) but 58cm is at the top of the Kask sizing. Would you recommend going for a M in Kask or size up to a L?
Any advice much appreciated - Thank you.

Not sure about aero, but aero enough for me.
I find most aero helmets too heavy and I have neck issues.
Also, I can use this helmet for road riding.

Only complaint is the design of the foam at the front is a bit uncomfortable. I have to keep it a bit less snug than other helmets.

Sorry probably did not make this clear - my question was on sizing. I am 58cm which sits at the top end of Kask sizing. Would you go for a M or L?

Seconded on the foam for the Utopia. I'm on the upper end of most M helmets as well and always disliked those two protrusions. I switched to an M Evade a few months ago and the fit was dramatically more comfortable.

I'm 56cm and have medium. I have a shaved head and sometimes wear a cycling cap and have room for adjustment.
Depends if you have lots of hair or wear caps all the time I guess?

I’m frequently the guy training with a TT helmet haha. I don’t see how you can practice being aero without it, from visibility to constantly being conscious of how you align your head and shoulders while wearing it. Also, I don’t really care what people might think :)

I have the Specialized TT, POC Cerebel, and Kask Utopia. I also have the first generation Evade, but I don’t like it very much.

I know the POC is a bit slower than the Specialized TT helmet on me, from field testing, and the evade was noticeably slower. I haven’t done field testing with the Utopia but my hunch from daily training and mixing it up with the TT helmet is that it isn’t much of a compromise. I wouldn’t say the same for the first gen evade, and the Cerebel fits a bit narrow on me so I don’t wear it very often for comparison anymore.

If I had a TT where I expected to do a lot of riding out of an aero position I would use the Utopia, maybe putting vinyl over the large front vent since I don’t think i need ventilation over what TT helmets generally provide.

Everything I've read tends to rule the Kask out for being too expensive for a helmet that doesn't even have MIPs, and has issues with no brow pad leading to discomfort and sweat getting in your eyes?

With this in mind Id be curious as to what people would pick between the Giro Vanquish, the Oakley AR05 and the Utopia?

I have the Utopia, it's my favorite road helmet ever:
- great fit. Some complain about the narrow pads on the forehead, but I don't have a problem even on longer rides.
- incredible ventilation for an aero helmet. This is why the forehead pads are set up the way they are: in addition to the vents, air passes over your forehead and into the helmet. This really works.
- terrific build quality. It's expensive but you're getting your money's worth. Feels like a luxury item.
- great straps and retention system. Leather chin strap is very comfortable. The straps naturally lay flat and don't hit your ears. The retention system does not get in the way of sunglasses.
- I think it's the best looking road helmet available.

Absolutely love this helmet.
