Fueling for full ironman
Hello,

I'm looking into putting together a plan to complete a full ironman. Everything I'm reading basically says to take in ABOUT / AROUND 250 calories a hour.

So if I plan to do a 13 hour ironman, I only have to take in 3250 calories for the entire event?

Seems kinda low.....

It is a lot less calories that you need to intake than you would think.

Gatorade Endurance:
Per 12oz serving, Gatorade Endurance formula contains: 90 calories, 310mg of sodium, 140mg of potassium and 22g of carbs

So 24oz would be 180 calories.

Add 1-2 gels per hour and its 280-380 calories per hour for 1 bottle and 1-2 gels.

Do some carb loading the day before and you should be fine.

Seems low until you try to take in 250+ calories/hour on the run after being out there for 6+ hours already. That’s something your gut may need practice with.
