Garage door frozen

So we had snow and then rain and then single digits in an 18 hour period. I think the rubber seal is frozen to the ground.

Hair dryer? Something else?

Muscle? Just open the door manually. That's a thing, you know.

Ice doesn’t have much strength in tension so unless you see massive ice buildup on the bottom of the door I’d rule that out.

Is the overhead motor even trying to run? How well is your garage sealed? Possibly a frozen roller bearing?

70 degrees and state income tax free down here in FL ;)

Yeah going to check the outside once the baby is napping to before I pull the cord and see if I can manually lift it. Planning for worst case because balls cold the next few days

Motor runs. Just had new springs installed so they a full check out like a month ago.

FL lacks some things I like

So in true LR fashion (everything is in here) this happened to me. The weather strip/seal did indeed freeze to the pavement. Motor would run but no movement- did smoke a bit. Solution was to disconnect opener and lift door either by muscle power or leverage with a pry bar. I thought I would have to buy a new opener motor, but Dr Google told me all I needed was a new belt for $8 american. Just took off old on and fed on new one easy peasy. Did have to put on new weatherstrip.

Get out your largest putty knife, start at one end of the door, and work the knife between the floor and the weatherstripping to unstick the door. If you don’t have a putty knife then use a barbecue spatula.

Less is more.

Crank up the car in the garage. The exhaust will melt it. Feel free to take a nap while waiting for it to melt.

This is the winner.

I had a putty knife with the sticker still on. No clue to its actual purpose since I don't putty anything but worked like a charm for this.

Thanks

Thought about it but both of us have ALL of our family here. Plus there's no place without snow that we would want to live year round

I salted the drive and walkway yesterday due to the F-ed up weather we were having. I'm glad I did. Drive and walkway are pristine ice free and dry.

That sounds more like an argument FOR moving rather then against.

Long Chile was a silly place.
