I probably did about 400,000yds swimming, biking was about 100 miles and running was about 30 miles. I track my workouts on whiteboard calendar and after 5 weeks of tracking I erase it and start over so I'm just going by rough estimate.

In order of time:

Run: 301 hours, 2440 miles
Bike: 138 hours, 1520 miles outdoors + uncounted miles from indoor training
Swim: 23 hours, 40 miles; + about 4 hours aerobic swim pulls with stretch cords

But why limit to SBR (/lift), let's give some specific XT here ;)

Hike: 15 hours, 45 miles
Body weight exercises: 15 hours, 0 miles (e.g., planks, pushups, glute bridges)
Walk: 12 hours, 60 miles (only racewalk activities recorded)
Inline Skate: 7 hours, 83 miles
Nordic Ski: 6 hours, 29 miles (classic style)
Jumprope: 6 hours, 0 miles
Kayak: 4 hours, 16 miles
Elliptical: 4 hours, 0 miles
Rowing erg: 2 hours, 17 miles

Happy 2020 in training to all!

Swim: 17 hours, 60,000 yards
Bike: 125 hours, 1,579 miles, almost all outside on new gravel bike
Run: 180 hours, 1,065 miles
Other: 100 hours, mostly strength with some skiing and kayaking

It was a good year. Emphasis not triathlon but on adventure:
  • No injuries
  • Two ultramarathons (one was a 60K in which I ran all night in Finland; the other a 50K on the Pacific coast of Oregon)
  • Two Olympic distance tris
  • One half iron (55-59 age group win)
  • A midnight sun swim race from Finland to Sweden
  • A gravel bike race
  • Lots of strength training 'cause I went to my 40th high school reunion (don't tell anyone how vain I am!)

I love seeing folks' totals and achievements. Doesn't seem to be bragging ...

no PRs because I basically make stuff up as I go along, which is not a good strategy for actually going fast. I did, however, win a local indoor sprint tri and went home with a $25 cheque for 3rd place in a local 5k. Those are cool but not as cool as spending 4 weeks teaching swimming at a day camp. :-) That's always my favorite part of the year.

Swim: 2,002,000 yd in about 667 hrs. 20,020 aerobic points
Bike: 0
Run: 1730 mi in about 317 hrs. 6920 points

Total 26,940 points. Total hrs about 984.

Same. It's nice to see what sort of volume people are putting in that affords various times. Additionally, if people tell me I work out too much, I can say "well, compared to serious triathletes..."

WOW! That is a lot of swimming. Is that total time in the pool or actual swimming time? If just swimming time I imagine you're in the water for 2+ hours a day virtually every day of the year.

Total time in the pool e.g. includes rest between repeats. I swam every day except Christmas so avg time per day in the pool was about 1:50 during which time I covered about 5500 yd including about 1000 yd kicking and 1500 yd of strokes other than free. I did do triathlon seriously for about 15 yrs but gradually I came to hate the bike. Sorry but I would just rather spend that time swimming. :)

Swim 220,909 yds 75 hrs. 15.6%
Bike. 3867 miles. 210 hrs 43.6%
Run. 1181 miles. 182 hrs. 38%

9 hours avg/week

I have always kept a log but dont really use it for much. Looking at yearly totals is eye opening. I need to bike more for sure! Probably swim more also. If I had known my totals, I would have squeezed in another 19 miles running.

Run - 1,471 miles in 198 hours

I started to swim 4x and ~20k per week to prepare for IM Cork in June, and of course, the swim ended up being cancelled. I think the extra volume made me a lot stronger during the swim though. Regardless, glad I took the time to look at and reply to this thread... some good insight into how I'm spending my time.

Doing a bit of causual surfing around slowtwtich and thought I'd add to this thread (if even well beyond the year end).

Had hernia surgery in February so 5-6 weeks off before starting 'real' training with only two races this year, Challenge Roth (8:57) which was a one minute PR and first time at Kona with a 9:51 (whoa.. its hot there). I have a busy work schedule with frequent travel as well as enjoying personal holiday travel so training is very focused and concise.

2019 Totals:
Swim: 406,293m / 103.5 hours
Bike: 4440 miles / 261 hours - additional 1061 miles / 83 hours commuting
Run: 1280 miles

All biking aside from commuting and maybe 3-5 rides is completed indoors

swim: 466km (158h)
bike: 9263km (267h)
run: 1175km (93h)
total: 525h

Race: 1 sprint (keeping my streak alive from 1988 of doing a Triathlon)

Note: No PB of any sort past 5-7 years, I'm almost 49 and on the down slope of Peak performance... after 45, age has caught up and slowly losing speed in my swim (5-10sec/100m) and running (10-15sec/km)... Only thing that has stayed and even increased a tad was my FTP from 285 to 296.

Goals for 2020 in terms of volume (less bike and more running)
swim: 500km
bike: 8000km
run: 2000km

Race: Half-Marathon PB 1:18:59 would be happy with a 1h26-27 at 49

I still think that last bit against you down the rowing basin at Demi Espirit was the deepest and longest I've ever had to dig & held that dig in a triathlon.

that last and IDK if it was 1 or 2k though is something that will always be one of those triathlon memories for me. There have been races since then that have taken more out of me or zapped me more but none that I can recall willingly going that deep

Thank you!

Lol that stretch on the basin is 1.3mi (2.2km) long... there's about an extra 100m each end of the basin for the rowers to start and end their race.

Great memories indeed! Cheers mate.
