Re: The Memo Method [trail] [ In reply to ]

Are we to assume that Memo trails only outside? So, no treadmills

He also only does 'strength training' at the playground [BTW, I've been known to do that as well]

Getting into a gym might help on those two accounts; otherwise, he's nailing it

****

I can't help thinking of Straight-Edge Punks who were spotlighted - at first - more for the things they didn't do [drink/smoke/fuck] than their music or message; at least Memo is getting credit here for being a solid performer first, even though he doesn't Garmin/Strava/etc

That may be a poor metaphor

Memo doesn't believe in gadgets, memberships and fancy stuff and yet wears a Vaporfly lol...

Thought the same thing, but like that he's wearing Nike shoes with an Adidas suit. Hopefully he got good deals on both, although I'm sure his Boston shirt is overpriced. ;)

Love the overall message. There is a long history of runners around the world who have lived and trained that way.

Are those trails in Central Park or another NYC park?

I love the story and simplicity, but Memo would probably be even faster if he used tech. Sorry, it’s true!

how? if you were to parboil his running world to, say, a 400m track, a Timex with 'lap' feature, a notebook log, and a measure of self-awareness of restedness, fatigue, etc, what technology could make him faster?

Thank you so much for posting that. First inspirational video I've seen in a long, long time.

A stopwatch is a very powerful tool if you run over a known distance or the same loop. Of course if I had a 20 minute climb close by, a stopwatch would be fine for my bike as well.

I'm sure there is some structure and method to Memo's training in order to run a 2:33, but oftentimes these anti-technology seem to come out against structured training and just encourage people to plod around aimlessly beyond what is reasonably required to enjoy outdoors and get the heart pumping. If you are leaving behind a family while you are out "training" at least make it count!

The OP said that the industry was fooling us. The "industry" includes gear.

Its a dude that forgoes a cheap HR monitor to train with yet wears the best most expensive shoes on the market and the perception from the OP is you can be fast while being simple without using the best. Apparently that isn't the case based on the video...you can't have it both ways.

ok mate, whatever floats your boat, and if the message that you want to take from it is a message of negativity, so be it.

I think that's it's more about focusing on what's important, the rest is just details.
