Been to Aruba or St. Lucia?
Has anyone been to either or both of Aruba or St. Lucia on vacation? Am considering going in late August on my honeymoon. The girl and I are more active than sedentary, and would like to have enough to do to keep us busy for a week or so. Can anyone chime in on plusses or minuses of either? Things you would or would not do? Would you recommend one over the other? If so, why? Where would you stay? Where should I avoid? Does it make sense to go to Aruba, which then affords the opportunity to island hop on a day trip to a place like Bonaire or Curacao? Any help is appreciated

I've been to Curacoa and it's quite nice. My brother has been to all the ABC's and liked all three islands. They're Dutch and I certainly felt safe in Curacoa.

Are you a scuba diver? Was't bad at Curacoa but I understand that Bonaire is even better.

My wife and I went to St. Lucia in our honeymoon and were slightly disappointed. We stayed at Sandals, which is an all inclusive resort. Needless to say it was a bunch of partying people on their honeymoon. Not what we were looking for. Having been to Hawaii and all the different islands, I much more prefer HI over my one experience to the Caribbean. Don’t get me wrong, St. Lucia was nice but much different in many ways to our HI experiences. We tend to like the “Americanized” type of trip where we can eat anywhere, go anywhere, drive on the right side of the road, less poverty, etc. Enjoy!

I went to Aruba for my honeymoon 3 years ago (August). It's a neat place, but if you're active then I would go somewhere else. Believe it or not most of the island is desert. It's great for Windsurfing and swimming and drinking. The last time I was in St. Lucia was 19 years ago but I was not impressed. I chartered a sailboat and sailed around the Grenadines (st. Lucia included) and it was great sailing and great scenery (and the Rum Punch was cheap) but not much else. It's very indigent and 3rd world. I would recommend St. Martin or even better, St. Batholomew (St. Bart's). There's lots to do and see in St. Martin. St. Bart's is incredible scenery and probably better for a honeymoon. I've been to most of the Caribean Islands and I like St. Bart's the best. Have fun!

been to both....

st lucia is much more primative and not much of downtown area. basically your stuck at your resort.

aruba - bunch of hotels with casinos located closely together so you can at least walk around outside your resort. fair downtown area.

i vote aruba for sure!

My wife and I went to Aruba for our honeymoon. I can't remember the name of the place we stayed. It was one of those all-inclusive places. The place we stayed was NASTY. My wife freaked. The beaches are nice and we did enjoy the casino. I have not been to St. Lucia, so can't comment. However, I will never go to Aruba again. It was a letdown. Hate to put a damper on that for you. We would have been happier going to the beach here in South Carolina. Call me crazy, but that's the way we feel.
