Coal is dying, Thanks Trump!

Remember all those coal jobs he was going to save? Maybe not so much....

Coal is on the decline and coincidentally CO2 emissions are down.

The reality is that natural gas is killing coal, not regulations. It also doesn't help that renewables will continue to get cheaper due to technological improvement and economy of scale. Eventually that separation is going to be rather significant.

#MAGA

Just more evidence that Trump is a genius. He convinces dummies that the coal industry can be saved by deregulation. At the same time he reduces emissions and satisfies the left.

He truly is the greatest!

So he let the market decide instead of forcing it by regulation. This is bad because...?

And you know why coal is dying? It's because those lefties are using renewable resources more than ever.

"U.S. electrical generating capacity by renewable energy sources (biomass, geothermal, hydropower, solar, wind) has now — for the first time — surpassed that of coal."

Damn them.

I'll just be glad to see the end of strip mining.

Good to see, but not what I expected. I did expect the US share to continue to decrease, actually hoped so, and agreed with Obama on the topic, but I thought Trump was going to work on allowing and opening more foreign markets where there is still demand. Better that coal stay in the ground IMO.

Or the market decided even though his administration was doing it's level best to deregulate the Clean Power attack on toxins generated through coal.

Ummmm, strip mining probably has the lowest environmental impact/foot print of all surface operations. Mountain top removal, major impact. I have taken my family to a couple "strip mines" that I worked at. They could not identify any previously mined areas within 5 years of reclamation.

At another mine we actually restored prairie that disappeared with European settlement. Lets agree blanket statements are not the best way to make a point.

They just don't have anything else to make electricity, but they are making huge investments to get off that horse. They don't have a huge natural gas supply like the US.

It appears they are making significant investments in both coal and renewables. Renewables alone (at the moment) do not have the ability to keep up with their increasing power demands, hence the approvals for more coal mining capacity. Coal certainly isn't dead in China. https://www.forbes.com/...ves-it/#73c39df865fa

Yes, I'm aware of their limited NG supply as I work in O&G. I eagerly await more west coast LNG facility approvals.

Coal may not be dead in China, but I pity the poor fools that have to breathe in that soup.
