Congrats, the 2am bike rides paid off 😜. See you in Kona!

Guess so!! Hopefully I won’t have to do such early workouts over the next eight weeks, as my wife and I are both teachers, so don’t have to be done quite so early with workouts.

Congrats on your race results and KQ Nate, nice write up! I just can't believe you took 30 precious seconds to save your ride in T2, the mind does odd things during stressed times I guess.

Have fun in Kona!

Yeah - not the best choice, and won’t be done again. The data doesn’t really matter that much in hindsight!

Nice story, thanks for posting. Pretty nuts that there were six M40-44 below 9:45 given that course and conditions, on a weekend when there were two other major WTC Ironmans going on. Doesn't look like there's ever been more than four go that fast at IMLP, for example . . . seems like you made it harder on yourself!

Yeah - winning M40-44 time in 2018 was over 10:00! Less folks raced this year, but a much faster field. Bike course was a bit different this year, but the weather led to slower bike times.

The weather is going to be quite the contrast for the OP when he races next in Kona!

Yep - will definitely do a lot of my training in the heat and humidity. Won’t be quite Kona, but in the Boston area it can get pretty hot and very humid mid morning over the next two months. Will plan to do most of my long runs in those conditions.

It seems like you do a lot of bike training indoors. Curious if you use a fan while on the trainer. I’ve noticed I’m much more heat acclimated this summer after a winter of indoor riding without a fan. There was a fairly recent thread on this floating around.

Congratulations on Kona qualifying. Great job!!
The weather did not make it easy.

The RD at Haugesund is good, really good. Sadly there will be no more IM races.

It is true, the breakfasts at hotels here in Norway are really good.

I am happy that you and your family had a great time.

I do usually use a fan. In prep for Eagleman 703 and FL 70.3 I did some rides without a fan in a downstairs bathroom w/shower on - that was a definite sweat fest. I also used the sauna in lead up to those races. Will try to do some heat prep in the few weeks leading into Kona if it can fit into my schedule. In the big picture, it’s my first Kona, so clearly nowhere near podium aspirations - just there to soak it in and put together a race I’ll be proud of.

The buffet at the Scandic Maritim deserves its own thread!
Thank the Norse Gods for that cuz finding decent food the rest of the day proved quite challenging...

Thanks! Definitely a memorable experience - it was our first time in Denmark and Norway, and we feel that we only touched the surface in terms of exploring. We’d love to return when the kids are a bit older to do some hiking and boat trips in Norway.

Congrats on the great race. Setting a solid IM PR in conditions like that, very impressive. Looks like all those 3am rides paid off!!
