Trump never called for a ban on Muslims.
Don't quibble. Of course he did.
Quote:
In a written statement late Monday afternoon, the Trump campaign said the Republican frontrunner wanted a ātotal and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on.ā
By the way, have we figured out "what's going on" yet?
Link?
It is almost as if you don't have a Google machine of your own. He only switched off of calling it a Muslim ban when he got grief. Then he made the same proposal but rebranded it.
In case your access to the internet has been curtailed here is a small sample, many more are out there.
https://www.youtube.com/...outu.be&t=14m05s Geist: Donald, a customs agent would then ask a person their religion?
Trump: That would be probablyāthey would say, āAre you Muslim?ā
Geist: And if they said, āYes,ā they would not be allowed in the country?
Trump: Thatās correct.
https://www.youtube.com/...=youtu.be&t=3m9s Iām looking at it very strongly with Rudy Giuliani heading it. Iāve spoken to him a little while ago. Weāre going to put together a group of five or six people. Very, very highly thought of people, and I think Rudy will head it up, and weāll look at the Muslim ban or the ātemporary banā as we call it ā¦ He will head it up and heās agreed to do so.
https://www.youtube.com/...youtu.be&t=7m32s Chuck Todd: The Muslim ban. I think youāve pulled back from it, but you tell me. You said, āLastly and very importantly,ā this is from your speech on Thursday night, āwe must immediately suspend immigration from any nation that has been compromised by terrorism until such time as proven vetting mechanisms have been put in place.ā This feels like a slight rollback.
Trump: I donāt think itās a rollback
Todd: Should it be interpreted as that?
Todd: I
donāt think so. I actually
donāt think itās a rollback. In fact, you could say itās an
expansion. Iām looking now at territories. People were so upset when I used the word Muslim. Oh, you canāt use the word Muslim. Remember this. And Iām okay with that, because Iām talking territory instead of Muslim. But just remember this: Our Constitution is great. But it doesnāt necessarily give us the right to commit suicide, okay? Now, we have a religious, you know, everybody wants to be protected. And thatās great. And thatās the wonderful part of our Constitution. I view it differently. Why are we committing suicide? Why are we doing that? But you know what? I live with our Constitution. I love our Constitution. I cherish our Constitution. Weāre making it territorial. We have nations and weāll come out, Iām going to be coming out over the next few weeks with a number of the places.
https://www.youtube.com/...youtu.be&t=2m52s Hannity: What is your position? Because you were trying to explain yesterday [on NBC] that your position has not changed that you either vet them or they canāt get in.
Trump:
No. I think my positionās gotten bigger now. Iām talking about territories now. People donāt want me to say Muslim. I guess I prefer not saying it, frankly, myself. So weāre talking about territories.
I'm beginning to think that we are much more fucked than I thought.
