Small town school ruining our tradition
My son and I have been camping over Memorial Day weekend every year since he was 4 and this would be our 6th consecutive year but his cousin is graduating and for some reason the school dedided to hold the ceremony over a holiday weekend.

Seriously, what a terrible idea. They must not want many people to show up.

Wait, what? You go to cousins' HS graduations? Is it expected? Completely foreign to me, I barely went to cousins' weddings, and we all grew up close...

I think you should set up a massive post-graduation barbecue and then schedule the camping for another weekend. Everyone wins.

We are no doubt going camping another weekend. It's a big deal to us and I cherish the father/son time over this weekend more than anything else we do. He brings it up from time to time throughout the year too so i know it's not one sided.

How far away is your camp spot? Can you camp as usual and then field trip to the graduation?

Then you keep the tradition and have a new funny story about the time you rolled into graduation mid camp trip.

ETA I say this because my husband got tickets second row for a baseball game on a weekend we already have camping booked and I am trying to convince him this is a good idea :-)

No, they are across the state. A 5 hour drive each way. I like your enthusiasm though!

Do you teach him how to stalk and kill wild carrots and set traps for foraging eggplants?

Sorry, couldn’t resist. 😆

I taught him exactly how to plunge his knife through the tough skin for the kill
