When I get a flat on the road, I use the new tube first. Then if needed patch on the road for any follow up flats.

I also batch repair tubes at home on rainy days taking my time. I will take the wheels off of the bike(s). Bundle up that tube to use as a spare since I know that one is good. Then I patch a tube and place the newly patched tube in the tire. Then I can be sure the patch held before the next ride.

I also volunteer to carry flatted tubes of the other riders when they do not want the old tube. This helps build up my own supply of spares. I just end up with mismatched valve lengths.

On tire issues, I carry an old race number in my bag. Those tyvex numbers are great to slip into a damaged tire and quite a bit cheaper than dollar bills.

Tyvek barrier? So a Tyvek barrier might get us home if we have something less than a full split tire. Neat!

Getting motivated to return to the group rides to get their flatted tubes.

Indoor Triathlete - I thought I was right, until I realized I was wrong.
