Practice running hard (ish) on tired legs.

Lots of bricks off hard bike session

Make long runs easy with a hard finish.

Negative split all your training

1,2 and 4 are bad ideas. #3 is not a terrible idea but you are better off practicing steady pacing.

Tell that to Brett Sutton ;-)

If the OP was a world class athlete - sure. An AGer that struggles with a run simply needs more run fitness without getting injured. LSD is the way to achieve with a low risk of injury.

Next races on the schedule: none at the moment

"simple needs MORE run fitness without getting INJURED"... Some inconsistency here.

If you ever have seen Sutton's plans they have the less volume of running, but they are smart training workouts.

It also builds up as the week goes on so fundamentales are there already. You need to progress across the season to get to specific race training

and the early results are in... and they are pretty grim.

Been doing LOTS of easy running and some strength work since creating this post.

Did the old IMC course yesterday (sans the out & back).

Super windy day. Even up Y. Lake where I was doing 3.8 mph at times.

Took it easy the whole time (5:48) - capped HR @ 136 (max is 170).

Got on the run and it was the usual "Ironlegs feeling" sluggish as hell. Could run, but for the speed I was going the effort was much too high. Certainly not sustainable for 42K.

I suspect not enough food while biking. Next time I go long, I'm really going to up the calories and see what happens.
