Do people really have that much of a problem with the stock chucks on their pumps?
I was content for years with generic pump heads. Many of them are decent. Then, I got a disc wheel and had to get a chuck that was compatible. That is when I learned how much better good chucks are. Typical chucks loose several PSI when removing them, and that is if you are careful while removing. (And don't forget the extra pump cycles needed when you lose air during installation.) These great chucks lose nothing. And, their installation and removal require no care... they just work.
Really, the standard Silca chuck is freakin' awesome. The HIRO simply takes that to the next level of convenience and is disc-compatible.
Do you need a great chuck? No, just get a high quality gauge and figure out how much air you lose (and accuracy) compared to your pump's gauge and adjust accordingly when you inflate. That will get you to good most of the time. However, if you have a good pump gauge and a good chuck, your tire pressure is much more likely to be where you are aiming.
