So I am booked for a two week stay in Kona this March. I am currently training for my 10th full Ironman at the end of July in Whistler this year for my 50th birthday. I hope to do a 70.3 in early June with a goal time of 6:30 or so. Kona will be a training vacation as I want to spend most of my time training and relaxing but I do not want to over do it as I am still in the base phase of my training. Currently doing about 8 hours a week and am starting the 80/20 plan shortly to gear up for IMC.
So my question is how much is too much. I typically only want to add 10% each week. But is ok to increase the volume by much more than this if you are not doing much else. Is no work and lots of rest. I would stick mostly to low intensity efforts and go longer but just wondering how much is too much.
I have taken my bike to Kona a number of times so I am familiar with most of the routes and places to go. But if anyone has any cool tips or suggestions please let me know.
