hmm. . . i think i'd give the edge to paula in that matchup, though not by much. my wild-assed theory is that those women are all very closely matched, but when push comes to shove the deciding factor is that paula is a killer and chrissie isn't. badmann is also quite cheerful, whereas ryf strikes me as having the killer instinct, too.

Here's another question though when comparing athletes of today vs. even just 10 years ago: Race start time. I'd also argue that athletes today have it a little easier on the bike as the quicker you get out to Hawi, the better chance you have of getting through there before the wind picks up.

Chrissie once finished 22nd overall in Kona. Ryf would've needed to go 15 minutes faster last year to accomplish that feat.

Comparing the two is unfair, but there's always a next one and I agree that Lucy could very well eclipse Ryf, as great as Ryf is today.

Hmmmmmm. PNF was what overall one year? PNF GOAT so far....

I think the bigger awesomeness and what should be a bigger talking point is how well Baden Currie swam. This guy only really took up swimming a few years ago and the only person to outrun Gomez in an Ironman marathon. I was at 2017 IM NZ his first IM race and while all the others kept safe in the pack on a horrendously windy day he pretty much ended up riding solo and after Bozzone went on a suicide mission and held off a hard charging Brown who set a run course record. I can't see him winning but really a dark horse for the race and will be interesting to see where he ends up. I'm picking a top 5...

x2...people should be worried about him....gold and silver from Cairns and the associated run times could be replicated in Kona
