It could also look a lot like that sarcophagus they opened in Egypt and just be full of shit.

Yeah, especially since they found it while working on a "new sewer system". Makes you wonder what went wrong with the old system.

Interesting, but seems like someone could weigh the thing and do some back of the napkin math to determine if there was a chance of "big gold bars" being in there.

Difficult. Those old safes tend to be made of iron, concrete and asbestos. No telling how much of each and 100's of lbs to begin with.
