Oliver 1/2 Year 15: & a new bike course
A big weekend for triathlon out here in BC. There's the 70.3 in Victoria and in the Okanagan the 15th annual Oliver Half. From a Hydrosloth's perspective the swim course always "seemed" long, and the bike course really WAS long, at 93 K. This year, due to some construction issues in the bustling Wine Capital of Canada (Oliver) the bike course is featuring a adventure up into the Eastern Flanks of the Okanagan Valley. The new course which you can see here:

indicates a 87 K course. Is the new shorter, steeper course going to be faster than the old course which was 93 K? Any other ST folk doing Oliver?

New bike course in Oliver was outstanding. New pavement for much of it. Was 87.5 km on my garmin with more climbing than the old route. Best bike course i have ever raced a tri on IMO.

Five minutes slower here... about the same fitness level. I figger only about 3 minutes of that because the new course is harder.

i'll add in that the new bike course was way better too (i've only done the olympic before - but that was basically the same thing)

except for the big hill at the start of the willowbrook section - the course was great!
- perfect pavement
- zero traffic
- nice rolling hills

I hope Joe at Dynamic keeps that course for next year

I’ve been wanting to do this race for awhile. I think I’ll finally pull the trigger this next year. The new pavement sounds enticing!

Bring your 58 tooth for the ride back. I pissed away time gliding at 55 kph when I could have been crushing at 60 +

WOW. This makes the course much harder, but also FREAKING AMAZING.

It's on my list for next year for sure.

The new paving will make the Axel Merckx fondo a lot more enjoyable too! It's about time they paved those roads.

I wonder whose cage we can rattle to get the Victoria 70.3 to be held two weeks AFTER Oliver. Both are memorable, but very different Canadian races. Most of us Canadian ST folk are just LIKE CODY BEALS & would love to do both. But our 40 year old (plus) bodies would benefit from an extra week of recovery. Let`s put this ball in the WTC court.

WTC doesnt give a shit about Oliver's success or Joe (despite he setting up Whistler when PEN blew the coop!) . They want those $$ in Victoria. Never going to happen.

LOVED the new course!!

I unfortunately haven't done the race in the past, but knew the loop training locally.

I am glad this bike is here to stay, I gave Joe my feedback at the race too.

That fresh pavement was a nice treat too, pre-driving the course I was very pleasantly surprised!!!

This is really good to hear. I've raced Oliver three times and I loved the old course; nice to hear the new one is good as well.

This year my wife got to choose and we went to Victoria (fun course, nice long weekend). Next year I'll probably push to return to Oliver.
