The problem with this thread is the word "training". I gave up "training" years ago. Now I just swim, bike, and run - or generally do stuff that propels me from one location to another under my own power.
Triathlon is a hobby for us; it's suppose to be fun. If it's not fun, why do it?
I was out of the loop for 7 years with a herniated disc. I've been back for several years now and loving every minute of it. There's nothing about "training" that I don't enjoy. I look forward to every "workout". Heck, sometimes I'm like a kid on Christmas Eve waiting for Santa Claus when I know I have a fun group ride the next morning.
Racing is just the icing on the cake. I could take it or leave it. Even if every race was suddenly canceled forever, that wouldn't change my lifestyle one bit.
