Are these wood, or asphalt shingles? Typically if your shingles are sticking up they've been damaged, and someone will need to go up and make repairs.

Have you talked to your insurance company?

If they are bent back, they are damaged and need replacing.

There is no way of knowing what your insurance company will do as there is a huge variance between companies. With 40 year shingles that are 9 years old, they will probably want to pay for repairs unless there are a lot of shingles spread all across the roof. A 9 year old roof would most likely be considered repairable.

That would mean that they would pay to replace the individual damaged shingles which would likely be below your deductible. That also means that they wouldn't cover those shingles if another storm hit the day after your inspection since they were "covered" on a previous claim. They will be covered on future storms if you have them repaired.

Can you check to see how many shingles are damaged? Are they scattered all across the roof or just in one area? Are they on one slope of the roof or multiple slopes?

Yesterday I was on my roof pulling off some of the damaged ones and nailing on some non matching ones the lumberyard gave me for repair. Which is okay because I am going to need the roofers to come and do a proper job. For now I have coverage from rain. Yes you will have to replace the damaged ones.

That was one heck of a storm. Huge areas of damage.
