Got this from the folks at swimsmooth. One swimmer is 44 kg and 5'0" The other 6'2" and weighs twice as much go to the link and watch how they both swim at about 106 per hundred in open water with very different strokes. The short guy swims like a male Janet Evans. He could never swim as fast the way the tall guy swims.

Now go to the second link and watch Paul Newsome swim at 1:15 per hundred both at 46 strokes/min and 76 strokes per min. He says the 46 strokes per minute is harder because it is sustained by a 6 beat kick whereas the higher stroke rate has a 2 beat. The second link could be titled different strokes for the same folks.
The point is you might need to find a coach who understands this and is not trying to force you into the wrong box. I've had that type of coach. Right now I have a coach who is a true believer in doing alot of kick work. I would say we do one third of our masters work in kick dominant drills. He is a great coach having coached swimmers across the English channel and across lake ontario. Even though I am a high turnover stroke swimmer with a two beat kick this has made me faster. Better body position and I have been kicking so much the bent knee in my kick is now gone.
They constantly try to escape from the darkness outside and within
