Tomorrow is my birthday and also marks the day I first crossed the berm back in 2003 at twenty-one years old. Went back two more times over the proceeding years.

Even though it resulted in a great loss of life, money, and instability in the region, it was still one of the greatest adventures of my life.

My first born was 3/6/03, I missed her birth, it's the one regret I truly have. That's why I don't look back too fondly. I do agree with you as it was one my life's greatest adventures. I was lucky and only went there twice.

Yes, it still goes on. My son will deploy there again next year. 3rd deployment to Iraq.

My grandfather fought in WWII, Pacific theater, and spent time on Okinawa. I was stationed on Oki 50 years later. During my last deployment to Iraq (2008) I joked in 50 years my grandson will likely be stationed there. That joke looks more and more like a reality. Sure we've drawn down the force size, but our presence hasn't.
