Closing the loop. I really enjoyed riding in Phoenix. For my mountain bike skills, I have a Canyon Grand Canyon and rode it maybe 60 miles last summer. I rented a Giant Trance and it made me feel like a pro. I did three loops from the mountain bike project:
- gooseneck pemberton loop - first ride. Not technical. Great introduction to AZ mountain biking.
- West Side Loop (Brown’s Ranch) - a little more technical, climbing for the first two thirds then super fun, easy decent. The uphill was teal, down was just green. A great 20 mile loop.
- 10 miles in Brown Ranch. I made up the loop using a REI loop. A solid climb in the middle. Less technical. Got too confident and bit it on a decent when I lost the front wheel.
Overall, I’m getting back in shape. 250 outside miles the last year verse 200 peloton hours. Phoenix trails made my out of shape ass smile.
Solution:
More weight on front wheel in turns. WAY lower psi, because it's not gnarly enough terrain to pinch flat. You'll benefit from as low of psi as possible on sand like that.
