road wheels for gravel (cross) bike
My new cross bike came with big crunchy mountain bike style tires and they've been a lot of fun on trails and greenways and just straight up dirt, but I also want to ride this bike in sprint triathlons and do some group road rides from time to time. I therefore want to get some wheels that will run narrower tires. The bike has disc brakes. I am aware of the Roval CLX 40 and CLX 50 options but does anyone have any strong recommendations?

As long as a little extra weight doesn't bother you, the the Hed Jet 4+ disc or 6+ disc are good options. They're on sale for $900 at Competitive Cyclist.

Velocity Aileron
Could possibly pull double duty for you.

I have been looking at and interested in Hunt wheels. Here are some 30mm gravel wheels you could use for both......or they have a 50mm wheelset with a less spoke count, so depending on your weight, may be ok to use these on gravel as well.

Most cross bike rim profiles shouldn't be any wider than most modern day road rims. I can't see why you can't just put a set of 25mm tyres on. Do you know how wide your rims are?

the current rims are 32mm (Roval SL CX SCS). i have explored the option of switching out tires (running like 28mm, smoother, higher psi tires) but have come to understand that behaving in that manner is perilous with pinch flats. i've been urged to instead switch out wheels, plus i'd rather run 25mm. maybe i'm being lazy though?

Online it tells me those wheels have an internal rim width of 22mm. Personally I'd be putting a set of 25mm Continental Grand Prix 4000s II on and go racing.

i came across this when i was looking around.

i may have misstated the model of wheels. i went and looked at them: Control SL CX and then theres a sticker that says "max pressure 45 psi"

i am really grateful for your help though and definitely if there's an easy and inexpensive option i'll take it.

The main problem seems to be that they lack the hook on the rim to hold the tire bead, kind of like old steel rims, which has a pressure limit or you risk blowing the tire off. It seems to be a byproduct of going tubeless, personally I think the idea is stupid. For my cross bike I went with velocity A23 rims and king hubs, I'm a little heavier so that let me stick with 32 spokes front and rear. Basically its a good sturdy rim that isn't too heavy for cross purposes that is designed to work with a 23mm tire yet allows for a 35mm tire to be fitted; there isn't really a big need to go wider then 35mm on a cross bike and in drier weather a 32 is even better in my opinion. The wheels are great for cross riding and racing and just for general riding. If I were to rebuild them, which I've been considering I'd get the longest 2.0/1.8/2.0 spoke I could find and cut and re-thread the spokes so they were 2.0 at the elbow and 1.8 at the nipples with alloy nipples to boot which helps to balance the weight of the rim some.

I have a couple sets of road disc wheels that I can put on my cross bike.
1.) Roval CLX32 with Schwable Pro One 700X28 tubeless
2.) Enve 3.4 with Conti GP4000 II 700X28 with latex tubes

Both are excellent.

I was in the same situation with my gravel bike. Wanted a second wheel set for road racing and training. After some pondering and comparing I got this one

You like the Hunt wheels? These are what I was definitely thinking of getting when I get a new road bike - haven't ready anything bad about these yet.

these would be fine, you could run them tubeless if you wanted and do double duty for cyclocross
