Question for Shawn at ASICS
Shawn, I like the Nimbus 7 for road running, have neutral to mild overpronation foot strike. Medium weight and build, long rigid arch. Which model is perhaps a little more dynamic, yet still offering good cushioning, but slightly less clunky? Already have the Gel Landreth. Thanks in advance.

The Landreth would have been my suggestion. How's that working out for you? From there, you can either go to the Cumulus, which is a neutral, cushioned shoe that will be less bulky than the Nimbus and Landreth. Or you could even try something from the 1000 or 2000 series. They're more for over-pronators but might work for you. We're testing the Nimbus VIII right now, and I think it is exactly what you're looking for. Unfortunately, it won't be available until mid 2006.

I'm not familiar with the GEL-Voltage. It's probably a shoe that was made just for Big 5...they place a large order with us and we work with them on the specs. At $59, I can assume it has a simple GEL unit in the heel and comfortable upper materials, nothing too technical or fancy.

I tried on the Nimbus 8 the other day, and I'm a big fan of it. It feels a lot like more like the Nimbus 6 (which I still run in) than the Nimbus 7, it's more responsive, has a nice feeling to the roll from heel to toe and the cushioning is dead on for me. It also looks awesome in orange and silver, and black and green. I'll be awaiting its release inpatiently.

It's just an Aussie/Kiwi thing.

We have new DS-Racer and GEL-Hyper Speed (replaces Tiger Paw) coming out very soon and a new GEL-Ohana Racer that you'll see mid-year.

hey shawn, i've been running in gel magic racers for years and have never had a single complaint (except for the hideous neon green color).

however my newest pair, while vastly improved in color, seems to be built up significanly more at the outside (lateral?) arch... near the pinkie toe. feels almost like two marbles in the outside sole of the shoe. is this perception of mine accurate? did they change more than the appearance?

The midsole/outsole didn't change...I don't think. I think it was just a cosmetic/upper change. Make sure it's the right size. There could also be a seam that is hitting you in the wrong spot due to the new upper.

Shawn, I've tried the Nimbus VII, I like it to walk around, but it feels a little too cushy when running. I'm coming from a saucony Hurricane, don't need the stability that much, although I am 6'3, about 210. Any suggestions, would the new VIII next year be better, other ideas? I do like the open mesh upper very much.

thanks

Some people, like yourself, might prefer the Kayano. The Nimbus VIII will probably be a great option for you when it become available.
