Vitamin Supplement
I recently read a study that showed the difference between the hundreds of supplement choices. It was an independent study concluding that the difference in the many supplements is the amount of vitamin product that actually reaches the cell. All seem to have the right ingredients, but some are unable to get those ingredients to the cellular level. (ie. the cell does not absorb much of the product)

According to the study, the vitamin I was taking at the time was only getting 5% of its contents to the cellular level.

I post this question to tap the amazing mind that is (sometimes) Slowtwitch. I do not have a link to the study because it was a hard copy.

Any insight into this?

Who paid for the study?

Yes, there is a lot of talk about "bio-availability." Not sure how much stock there is in it.

Hello, From what I understand a few things are at work. the first is that certain vitamins and minerals are incompatible. You need to take some at separate times in order for them to be absorbed. Others need to be taken in the correct combinations. Finally some come in the wrong form. I believe iron is one that is very hard to get into you body by taking supplements.

Also, vitamins and minerals are crucial to well being and performance, but too much can be as harmful as too little.

Another good place to take a look:

www.consumerlab.com

An independent lab that does analysis of over-the-counter supplements, mostly geared toward whether what's on the label is really in the pill.

A number of factors at work here:

1) vitamin/mineral tabs don't often contain the doses advertised

2) multivitamins are often in doses that are not % normal to each other

3) certain vitamins/minerals will cancel each other out by interfering with absorption.
