Cervelo Soloist versus Dual: How much faster?
Does anyone have an idea how much faster, if any, a Dual (78 degree seat angle)would be versus a Soloist for a relatively flat half-ironman distance? I know that the Soloist can be used for TT/triathlon at a 76 degree angle. I also suspect that you can get more aero on a Dual (plus, you have bar-end shifters on the Dual). Any idea of what kind of difference we are talking about for an average rider for a given distance?

I've read this site extensively and read Cervelo's site for information on the relative speed differences for aero positions. I'm hoping the experts on this site can give me a realistic idea of how much time is really at stake.

Depends on who is riding it

FYI, I have my 2004 with an Arione Tri set up at 81 degrees.

It would be a matter of seconds, one way or the other depending on the geometry of the rider. More aero does not necessarily mean faster, if you can't generate the same amount of power or stay in the bars for 2 hours straight. I went to a fitter sure that I wanted a dual or a p2k and was told the reach was too much and came away with a soloist.

PS. I have bar ends on my soloist.

It'll be a fit issue. The faster bike will probably be the one with the more appropriate head tube height. Remember that you are the least aerodynamic part of the equation... but you're also the source of the oomph, so the answer to "how much faster" will be the one you can more effeciently generate power on, within the constraints of aerodynamics.

The Dual allows for a steeper seat angle and lower front end. That does not automatically imply a rider will be faster, and therefore, any attempt to predict a time savings is worse than a SWAG. If you want to ride steep, get the Dual. If you want ONE bike that can reasonbly pull double duty, allowing you to ride forward, with less handling penalty than most other road bikes...then get the Soloist.

Assuming you already own a Roubaix...the logical choice is the Dual, period.

If you already have a road bike get the Dual. If not, get the Soloist.
