Nice pic find. I loved that Sante group as well...I knew someone who had this very setup with the 4000 and the Sante...I'm not sure about those MTB pedals, though...It needs some white Looks...and it needs to lose the Biopace rings, as well...I think some 9spd DA rings would work in the hue department.

The cutout kind of looks to be a long way from the rear wheel and eith vertical dropouts no way of getting closer. I wonder how effective it can be, always wondered that on my 200sci although the gap wasn't that big.

I wonder of the perpose of the cut out is not to shield the rear wheel but to allow as much aerofoil on the seat tube as possible.

Good point Jon, although won't that again suggest it could have be closer to the rear wheel to obtain more aerofoil?

In addition to keeping the aerofoil shape on the tube - I would imagine it also went some way towards shortening the wheelbase - albeit not by much

These models like the 500 have an incredibly short chainstays, so perhaps that was a major consideration.

Just wondering how much effect the cutout has when there is a rider on the bike, considering the turbulence caused by shins and feet whilst pedalling.

As is the case with all aeroframes, the effect is considerably greater if there is no rider on the bike. If Pluto hasn't insulted him we could have asked Gary for figures on the effect.

Wow, so they didn't invent it, they just perfected it.

Sure it was Ford that invented the car? I thought Daimler Benz preceeded Henry, but that he introduced mass production.

I was under that same assumption. And that he name the cars after his daughter Mercedes.
