Running songs - time and cadence helpers?
This topic has been covered before in the sense of "your 5 top workout songs", here:

http://forum.slowtwitch.com/...;mh=25;guest=5638587

i'm asking something different. What songs get stuck in your head while running? More specifically: what songs do you WANT stuck in your head?

For instance - i like having a drinking song or a marching song stuck in my head. time melts away..

Take "Chicago" for example.

You and your running partners:

I used to work in chicag-oh

the old department store

I used to work in chicag-oh

i don't work there anymore

A single voice:

a lady came in for a hamm-er

All:

a hammer from the store?

A single voice:

a hammer she wanted...

NAILED SHE GOT!

oooooh i don't work there anymore

this goes on as long as someone can keep coming up with things the lady came in for and didn't quite get. At KM 32 of a recent marathon, this song was quite handy in keeping spirits and pace up amongst the group (of guys) i was pacing.

Is anyone able to contribute to my song book? military guys / gals - i'll bet you've got some gems.

We used to sing this as a rugby song so below was what I could find doing a quick search. Some are tasteless and for those I apologize

Nail she wanted, screw she got
Fishing rod she wanted, my pole she got
Meat she wanted, sausage she got
Beef she wanted, pork she got
Helicopter she wanted, my chopper she got
Camel she wanted, hump she got
Translator she wanted, cunning linguist she got
KitKat she wanted, four fingers she got

A computer she wanted, my wang she got

A computer she wanted, my hard drive she got

Some pork she wanted, my white meat she got

Help she wanted, my AIDS she got

A board she wanted, nailed she got

A nail she wanted, a screw she got

Carpet she wanted, shag she got

A fishing rod she wanted, my pole she got

A screen door she wanted, slammed she got

A screen door she wanted, the back door she got

Paper she wanted, a ream she got

A cucumber she wanted, my pickle she got

A ruler she wanted, 12 inches she got

A pizza she wanted, a backdoor delivery she got

In a 25K race a few years ago I got the theme song from the movie "Smokey and the Bandit" stuck in my head. I don't know all the words, but I kept repeating the phrase "we've got a long way to go, and a short time to get there..." over and over. It ruined me. I do still like that song and that movie though....

Not to hijack the thread, but ...

When I used to swim competitively (decades ago in high school), I got the same thing stuck in my head day after day, practice after practice.

It was the jingle from the Jello commercial and it was perfect cadence for my swim stroke. But all there was to it was:

J E LL OOOOO ... J E LL OOOOO ... J E LL OOOOO.

Twenty years later I joined a masters swim program briefly. Got in the pool and there was that damned jingle again. AAAARRRRgggghhhh.

The "science" on any matter can never be settled until every possible variable is taken into account.

Not exactly a rocking song, but Yellow by Coldplay exactly matches my cadence.

Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And everything you do,
Yeah, they were all yellow.

I came along,
I wrote a song for you,
And all the things you do,
And it was called "Yellow."

So then I took my turn,
Oh what a thing to have done,
And it was all "Yellow."

Your skin
Oh yeah, your skin and bones,
Turn into something beautiful,
You know, you know I love you so,
You know I love you so.

I swam across,
I jumped across for you,
Oh what a thing to do.

 Cos you were all "Yellow,"
I drew a line,
I drew a line for you,
Oh what a thing to do,
And it was all "Yellow."

 Your skin,
Oh yeah your skin and bones,
Turn into something beautiful,
And you know
For you I'd bleed myself dry
For you I'd bleed myself dry

It's true, look how they shine for you,
Look how they shine for you,
Look how they shine for,
Look how they shine for you,
Look how they shine for you,
Look how they shine.

Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And all the things that you do.

After seeing the video of "These boots were made for Walkin'" - by Jessica Simpson.

This visual helps me thru the hard stretches of a run or bike.

having a song in your head is so 1990's, guys, it's all about the ipod

i've got one of those black nano ones. mostly up-tempo rock and hip-hop because they know how to keep a beat

I allways get this one stuck in my head

Sorry in advance jaretj

Do your ears hang low?
Do they wobble to and fro?
Can you tie them in a knot?
Can you tie them in a bow?
Can you throw them o'er your shoulder
like a Continental Soldier?
Do your ears hang low?

Does your tongue hang down?
Does it flop all around?
Can you tie it in a knot?
Can you tie it in a bow?
Can you throw it o'er your shoulder
like a Continental Soldier?
Does your tongue hang down?

Does your nose hang low?
Does it wiggle to and fro?
Can you tie it in a knot?
Can you tie it in a bow?
Can you throw it o'er your
shoulder like a Continental Soldier?
Does your nose hang low?

Do your eyes pop out?
Do they bounce all about?
Can you tie them in a knot?
Can you tie them in a bow?
Can you throw them o'er your shoulder
like a Continental Soldier?
Do your eyes pop out?

Do your eyeballs droop
do they wobble in your soup
can you tie them in a loop
can you wind them on a hoop
do your eyeballs droop!

I ultimately wind up singing:

Gymbo the clown goes up and down,

Up and down,

Up and down,

Gymbo the clown goes up and down,

And then he boogies on down.

I have a 21 month old daughter!
