How are television ratings determined? I've heard before that Nielson or whoever does the ratings will place devices in random households throughout the country and base ratings on their sample data.
I'm wondering because viewership obviously plays a huge role in what is shown on tv and how important it is for people to watch events like triathlon and soccer so that the networks know people care about the telecast but does my viewing actually go into the viewing numbers?
