Watching the video feed and there seems to be a bit of a swell running - not much chop though - never having been to PCB i was wondering how this would compare?

The gulf is generally pretty sedate in the early morning. But some days are rougher than others. BTW the red tide seems to be clearing or atleast in SW Florida. I got in it yesterday and it was nice.

The water in Hawaii is much clearer and pleasent to be in.

You'll be fine on the swim with your pedigree. Actually you are probably hoping for a rough day to get a more time on the people in your agegroup.

I wish I had the pedigree of a South African lifeguard in a past life.

The big concern in PCB isn't so much wave height, it's currents. Too many cyclones in the past two years have left the ocean bottom near the shore a total mess, which makes for all kinds of interesting water travel patterns, even when it looks relatively flat out there. Sight often since it's really easy to get pushed off course without noticing it too much until you've really got to do some correcting.
