My ridiculous purchase
Just ordered a Renn 575. I'm so slow on the bike it's a joke. Yet somehow I think I'm worthy of a $500 wheel. What a tool I am--a total poseur. Funny thing is I just don't care. In fact I'm so excited I feel the need to post about it. This is how I look at it though; when some dude passes me on a mountain bike and tells his friends he passed some a-hole with a disc, well then I've helped someone feel a little bit better about themselves. Maybe I'm not a poseur. Maybe I'm the nicest, most giving guy in triathlon.;)

(I use emoticons reluctantly).

I don't think you are a poser - why should the fast guys get all the toys?

Just wait 'till you get your new Renn custom painted like I did. You won't be getting dropped by mountain bikes then...

Ride the disc, who cares what other people think. I was really excited when I rode my first disc. It makes your bike look cool.

It will make you faster becasue you will work harder to "deserve". You owe it to the wheel.

Who cares if you ARE fast, as long as you LOOK fast? :)

Bjorn's not REALLY that fast, he just has everyone fooled (including the clocks) because he LOOKS so fast. :)

Don't be silly. If you can afford it, and it inspires you, then you'll probably ride just a little bit more because of the inspiration, and get faster.

The fact is, training is hard. Not the physical side, that's the easy part. It's getting the hell out there that's often hard, and if you don't want to ride, but you do want to go out and play with your $500 wheel, and that makes you get a ride in, then it was worth every penny.

Nope, you don't deserve that wheel. But, you'd be closer to deserving if you borrowed it to the fast guys you know whenever they race, especially if they're young and poor.

In the meantime, train hard, early, and late. Until you've had at least one fight about you're commitment to triathlon you don't deserve a disk either.

I am ready to buy two HED3's, but am not allowing myself to until I reach my bodyfat % goal. I figure by the time I reach 12% I should be fast enough on the bike to deserve them.

My thoughts exactly - make yourself worthy of it
