seattle folks, help me out
in a couple weeks, my partner and i are moving to seattle. while I am thrilled to get out of chicago, I know where nearly nothing is in seattle (at least tri-related). So, that said, we have a place to live, in Columbia City, not far from Seward park, which looks like a great place to run and ride. I have done a little research, but I need any helpful info you can pass along. How much longer can I get away with open water swimming, or is the season done. Also good places for that, and good pools. A friend told me about some good public pools, but coming from Chicago I am really hesitant. And tri clubs? Is Sea-Tri the only game in town? Any info you can give me... thanks in advance.

Josh,

Rainer Beach pool is fairly close to you (couple of miles). There are some triathletes who work out there. Has pretty good lap pool swim times. Sea-Tri is the only club I'm aware of. The lake is never closed to swimming but it'll be below 60 very soon. In city lakes you must stay within 50 feet of the shore or have a boat with you. This rule is kind of ignored but you do risk a ticket.

The All Star Fitness in West Seattle has a masters program with at least one swimmer who is very fast. It's about a 15 minute drive from you.

Good Luck.

John

Contact John at Triumph Multi Sport (triumph-multisport.com). He can answer all your tri questions and runs a great shop. Most OW swimming winds down by the end of Sept as the lake temps start falling pretty quickly.

I second the nomination of seeking out Triumph Multisports. From Seward Park, just head north on Lake Washington Blvd until you hit Leschi. This area is huge for cyclists and triathletes. They should be able to set you up with some training routes and group events.

medger evers pool at garfield high school is close to you. they have lap and master's. Evening lap swim there has a dedicated core group of ex-college swimmers. There's also masters at the connely center.

andrews bay at seward park is very popular. lake season is about memorial day to end of sept.

the south end lake route is fairly popular. triumph multisport has a group ride most saturdays leaving around 930 or 10am. you can ride year-round as we only have a handful of snow days a year in the city.

Seatri membership is worth it if only for the 10% discount at the shops.
