My P3C is in!!
I feel a little guilty posting this but I must have been one of the first to put a deposit down. So now it’s in (56cm) and I need help from those of you with more component knowledge. I was under the impression that the first batch would ship as framesets but they came in as complete bikes so now I need to decide if I want to swap out some components.

Crankset:

stick with FSA Carbon Pro Team: $0

switch to Dura-Ace: $180

switch to FSA SLK: $180

switch to FSA K Force: $300

Aero bars:

stick with VisionTech TT Clip on and base bar: $0

switch to Hed S-bend Carbon: $330

switch to Easton Aero & Delta Force: $250

switch to Easton EC90 Attack: $450?

Brake Calipers:

stick with Cervelo: $0

switch to Dura-Ace: $180

I’ve already spent a bunch so I don’t want to go nuts but this is my chance to get some value out of the components I may not want.

I appreciate any opinions/recommendations you may have.

P.S.: my ’04 P3 55cm is now officially for sale

I would stick with what you have and ride it for awhile. The only thing you might consider would be the aerobar setup depending on what you currently have, but if you decide to change later, you can sell the original VT's and come out better than those upgrade prices...

it's funny...

that $150 aerobar setup is definitely the best thing right now.

it's slick aero
it's cheap
it's super adjustable
when you travel it's easy to deal with (remove the clip ons)

why would you want something else???

because if it's cheap, it ain't worth it?

Sweet man, I think I'll have mine in the next couple of weeks. Hey, how big are you? I'm (that is, my bike fitter) still not sure about 56 vs. 54 for me. I'm 5'10" with a 32" inseam.

I think I'm going to upgrade to the hed s-bend, because they are sweet. I might change my mind after seeing the VTs, though.

Pics when you get it, please.

Hey Pony,

My 54cm is on order. The only thing I plan on switching at 1st is to put my Syntace C2 clip ons on the new bike....I just don't think i can do better than that (for me!).
I can't wait....anyone hear of any 54's being out? I put my order in last fall.
Thanks,

David

my training partners just bought p3sl's with the vision tech base bar and clip ons. they are a VERY nice set-up. almost look like a 1 piece they fit together so well. as someone said, you also get the versatility of the 2 piece design. i'd keep that as is for sure.

Seems to me that most of this is more about having an individualized bike than meaningful performance differences. If it is worth it to you to have a bike even slightly different from the one everyone else is riding right out of the box...well...that extra $800 or so is well spent. Otherwise, don't worry about it, just get the bike and ride...LOTS!

To answer some questions I'm 5'11-3/4" with a 32-1/4" inseam...I put my deposit down when Cervelo first announced the bike.

I want to get the bike I want to start with and not mess around with changing components later and selling on ebay or wherever.

Any recommendations on the cranksets?

Anyone had a chance to try the S-bends?

Francois is right...save your $$. You can use it for race expenses.

Post a pic when you get it.

Hey Pony,

I'm in the group of people waiting. The upgrades I have selected are about the same.

Zero Gravity calipers
Hed s-bend bar
FSA TT outer ring
Arione tri saddle

Leaving the cranks alone. Went back and forth on switching the fork after reading about the Austin bike and then Gerard's response.

Cheers, Pink

Maybe they have been improved since I bought my P3SL in December (think I might have read a post from Tom D. and Gerard that they have been), but I would stay away from the Cervelo brakes. I just made the switch to DA after a frightening moment when someone made a left turn in front of me and I had to swerve since the brakes just weren't going to stop me...

Love the DA brakes. Not as light as the Zero Gravity brakes (nor as cool!), but much lighter on the wallet. I also went with the HED Aerobar, which is AWESOME!

Congrats on the new bike!

Matt
