Ventura County Road conditions
Hello all,

The clock is ticking for our little training camp sojourn to Ventura County, Ojai to be exact. We've been following the local news regarding road conditions, but wouldn't mind hearing from any locals who could shed some more light. Are there going to be roads for us to ride on, and are we even going to be able to access the little village of Ojala where we are staying? Any thoughts or news would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey Ian,

It was definetly pretty rough out here for a couple weeks but it is all getting cleaned up and you should have no real problems. There is no problem getting to Ojai it was shut for just a few days in the real bad section of weather. In some cases the road closures are actually good because cars can't get through but bikes can so you have the whole road to yourself. Give me a call when you get into town.

Well I was around there on Sunday, and there were many road closure signs, but I didn’t take all of them. I think the main highways are fine, but some of the back roads are not. For example out of Ventura I usually don’t take 33 but go around Lake Casitas. I couldn’t get up to the lake as I was turned around by local law enforcement, after passing past many Road Closed signs across the road. Also going back from Santa Paula to Ojai up the 150 was closed except to local residents. I think you could get up to Ojai that way but I’m not sure because I didn’t get to Ojai coming from Ventura. Also in some of the low wash areas around Piru the roads were washed out. I’m going to try more routes later this week.

Thanks for the info guys.

Adam, if you could update me after further investigation, it would be greatly appreciated. Can't wait to get down to where it is warm and get off the damn trainer.

(Wed. 1-26-05)I didn’t get a real long ride in today because we got some rain. But I talked with a Sheriff about information on road closures, and he gave me a website. Eventually I found what he was talking about here: http://tinyurl.com/3klef which is a pretty good list of road closures and updated regularly. Not too bad really. Just verify your routes. I think your biggest problem is going to be preparing emotionally from going from a trainer to sunshine, Windex blue skies, white puffy clouds, beautiful green hills and little traffic. Maybe a little rain on Fri. but it’s going to be a gorgeous week or two coming up so enjoy it ;-)!

Hey Adam,

Thanks for the help. The ST community comes through again! I can't wait to shock my system with warm air, blue skies and fluffy white clouds. Oh, and don't forget green grass and leaves on trees. I'm starting to forget what the colour green looks like!

Thanks for the website hookup. I'll keep checking it as we get closer. Say a prayer to the weather gods for us that it stays nice through february.

See you in a couple of weeks.
