And yes, all my data is right on the watch.

If my Polar calorie counter and power meter are at all correct, based on my last two roller workouts (2.25" rollers, relatively high intensity 30 minute efforts) I'm between 27 and 28 percent efficient.

Anyone else do the math?

I have the same question! I am 5'7"; 158 lbs.; I ran at 176 avg HR for 2hrs 15 min and my Polar s625x said I had burned 2646 kcals. This seems impossible to me! I am obviously not answering your question... just confused as well.

doesn't sound too far off. Most estimates are around 100-125 calories per mile, at a 7 min pace that's roughly 580-630 calories so it might be right. I tend to believe my Polar to a point although I rarely wear it running.

Well I'm not worried so much as to what the polar heart rate monitor says. It is the software that seems to be off to me. I did the HP Marathon and looking at the watch it says I burned 4053 calories, which seems about right. After transferring it to the computer and checking the energy field in the diary, it was 2021. That I know it totally wrong.

on the flat at sea level it's very easy to estimate cal exp.

kcal burnt = distance in km times weight in kg

so if you weight 70k and run 10k that's 700kcal

176 bpm average for 2 hours and 15 minutes? Really? Dare I ask how fast you ran?

I'm average size (5-10, 155) and I always figured 600-700 cal/hr for 9 min. miles; 1,000 cal/hr for 6 min miles. That's what the charts say but my Timex HR monitor says I burn 10-20 % more.
