Experience with Tubular tape (jantex)?
Has anybody used the likes of JANTEX tape for tubulars? Is it any good or do I stick to the trusted old glue?

I use the Tufo tubular tape and like it very much. I have only recently started using it so my depth of experience with it is limited, but so far so good.

When I did IMC in '01, I had Bike Barn mount my new Conti tubulars. When I picked them up, I noticed they were taped (with Jantex) and not glue (which I had requested). I went back and they said that tape was the way to go. I was skeptical, but hell, this was my first experience to ride tubulars anyway. The tape held and has continued to hold since then (I had ridden them only one other time). Less mess and apparently easier to change out, though I have yet to test that. It appears to create a strong bond, much like glue, when the tires are inflated.

Tufo holds well; Jantex doesn't in my experience. I still prefer glue because it's easier to change a flat and it makes me feel special to glue tires. ;-)
