Wildflower - Has Tri-California gone too far?
I heard today that neither the long course nor the oly race have filled up yet - (less than 70% capacity so far). In contrast, these races sold out in a few hours back in 2003. Has Terry finally reached the limit of what people are willing to pay to race? I am not talking about the race fees, per se, but the camping fees, the "festival" fees, etc., etc., etc...

Thoughts?

i signed up again for Wildflower, mostly because the collegiate wave still has some very good competition. when i'm an age grouper (next year), i will not do wildflower, no question about it.

I think those numbers are not correct.

Oly has nearly 2,900 entries
LC has nearlly 2,300
Mt. bike has 1,200

I entered the LC since I've never done it and didn't go to WF last year. We have a big party (300 people) there, so it will be fun weekend (if it doesn't rain).

Yeah, two years ago, but the 2004 race didn't sell out for some time either. At the time, I thought it was because of the deluge of 2003, but maybe not...

Back in 2003, one of the TriCalifornia people said there would be apx. 9000 athletes there over the weekend, including relays, etc. He could have been speaking BS, though.

If you go to the http://www.tricalifornia.com it says right next to the race fees the percentage full the races are. I just looked & Long = 66%, Oly = 69%, MTB = 92%.

Yes, but those are the same percentage number that have been there since right after registration opened (nearly 3 weeks) and the list of entrants has been updated much more recently. Therefore, the numbers don't jive.

this is a little OT for this thread - but does anyone know if I can buy a camping pass now for WF? I signed up for the race hoping to travel with a friend who isn't doing it and i want to make sure i can get a camp site when i get there.

Should I stress about getting a camping pass now, or just show up Thursday night and pay at the park when i arrive. i'll be camping in a tent.

Thanks.

Camping passes get you nothing but a discount on the camping. It's first come - first serve, and I don't think they turn anyone away. You should be fine if you get there Thursday.

Thanks - i'll try to arrive before the sun goes down so i'm not hunting for camping space in the dark. i didn't know there would be so many people there - sounds like fun...
