Has anyone experienced stomach upset and diarrhea ater swimming in salt water? A friend of mine did Gulf Coast and hit 7 porta potties on the bike portion. When he finally finished the medical people said it could be the water. I think it's what he ate the night before, shrimp wrapped in bacon, scallops, pasta and steak.

I also did Gulf Coast and had no problems with the salt water swim. Might have been related to the pre race dinner.
Last year in the Corpus Christi Tri I got my timing off in the swim and accidentally swallowed a wave. If you've swallowed much salt water there is little you can do - it has to come out, one way or another.
Perhaps your friend simply swallowed too much salt water?
